A simple prostatectomy is done when a TURP is not feasible.
Prostatectomy (not otherwise specified) usually refers to the radical prostatectomy.
Introduction
These specimens are very rare.
Specimen opening
- Orient specimen (if possible).
- Ink external surface of specimen.
- Section perpendicular to the urethra.
Protocol
Specimen:
- Weight of specimen: ___ grams.
- Prostate dimensions (superior-inferior, left-to-right, anterior-posterior): ___ x ___ x ___ cm.
- Cut surface description: __________________.
- Nodules [present/absent].
Nodules:
- Appearance ___________________.
- Circumscription: poor/moderate/good.
- Size: ___ x ___ x ___ cm.
- Distance to margin __________ cm.
- Necrosis: [yes/no].
Blocking:
- Submit in total - if small.
